HIPIL
The hipil holds the midday heat and the grandmother's voice.
Mayan tradition tells that in the early days, women wore simple fabrics, white as sunlight on stone. It was then that the goddess Ixchel bestowed the art of embroidery upon the people. With the sacred technique of Chuy Kab, the threads began to narrate the universe.
This is how the hipil was born.
Originally white, a symbol of purity. Later embroidered with flowers representing the earth, corn, sky, and life. The neckline became the center of the world, the embroidery in the four cardinal directions, each design a season, and each flower a memory.
Since then, the hipil is not just clothing, it is a woven book, a memory that is worn, but no embroidery exists without hands that teach.
In every stitch lives the figure of Grandma – Chichí – a symbol of patience, history, and love. Knitting then becomes a sea of shared memories. The hipil protects, warms, and remembers. It is heritage transformed into presence.
Our room celebrates elegance and Mayan heritage through a design that takes inspiration from the traditional garments that bring our culture to life, preserving the memory of a people where women wear more than just their tradition.
