Tradition tells that in early times the Mayan people possessed a deep root and connection with the land, but not a way to preserve it.
Their stories lived in their voices, but not in time. The gods heard their words, and in their kindness, the goddess Ixchel—lady of the moon, weaving, and fertility—descended beneath the Mayan sky to teach the women a sacred art.
She showed them how to intertwine the threads with patience and love. How each stitch should tell a story of symbols from the universe, nature, and life itself.
This is how the Chuy Kab technique was born (Chuy = embroider, Kab = hand)
A handmade embroidery was not an ornament. It was memory, protection, and balance between humankind and the earth.
